James Scarlett, Tenor, was born in Farnborough ,Kent he obtained a degree in Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Canterbury before commencing his vocal studies.
He then completed The Knack, run by the Baylis Programme at English National Opera and later completed the advanced post-graduate diploma course at Trinity College of Music.
James has sung with, among others, Grange Park Opera, Swansea City Opera, The Savoy Opera Company, Riverside Opera, British Youth Opera, Kentish Opera and Opera Holland Park. He has a particular interest in the Italian Bel Canto repertoire and has sung the roles of Tonio, La Fille du Regiment, Count Almaviva, La Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Ramiro, La Cenerentola and the title role in Le Comte Ory.
Other roles include Nadir, Les Pêcheurs des Perles, Michele, The Saint of Bleecker Street, Don Curzio, Marriage of Figaro, Mercury, Orpheus in the Underworld Florestein, Bohemian Girl and Prince Nilsky, The Gambler and Dr Caius, Falstaff.
Concert appearances include Petite Messe Solennelle, Messiah and performances of the Recitant L’enfance du Christ with Paul Daniel and with Bryn Terfel in An Evening With Bryn Terfel and Friends for Grange Park Opera.
James was recently a semi-finalist in the 46th Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona.
